A devastating fire broke out at the Obasanjo Trailer Park in Ogere, Ogun State, on Saturday night, destroying a tanker and several makeshift shops along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway axis.
The blaze, which started around 11 pm, is believed to have originated from one of the shops before spreading to the tanker, which was under repair at the park.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire was brought under control through the combined efforts of park occupants, who used buckets to fetch water from a nearby gutter to quench the flames.
Musa, an eyewitness, recounted the incident: “The fire started about 11 pm when we were already sleeping. I just heard a loud blast, and before we realised what was happening, there was a fire outbreak.”
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of the park and the need for adequate fire prevention measures. It was observed that the fire had left a trail of destruction, with charred remains of the tanker and shops visible at the scene.
